Rule Breakdown:
• Leading zeros (0.00) are NOT significant placeholders.
• Non-zero digits (4, 5) and captive zeros (0in between) are significant.
• Trailing zeros in a decimal number (0at the end) ARE significant.

Standard Sig Fig Rules

  • Non-zero digits are always significant (e.g. 24.7 has 3 sig figs).
  • Captive zeros between non-zero digits are always significant (e.g. 7003 has 4 sig figs).
  • Leading zeros are never significant placeholders (e.g. 0.0025 has 2 sig figs).
  • Trailing zeros in a decimal are always significant (e.g. 43.00 has 4 sig figs).
